National Museums Liverpool have
launched a new, dementia-friendly, House of Memories website.
House of Memories is National Museums Liverpool's award-winning dementia awareness programme which offers training, access to resources, and museum-based activities to enable carers to provide person-centred care for people living with dementia.
As National Museums Liverpool's flagship social impact project, House of Memories is an important part of making National Museums Liverpool an inclusive museums service.
In line with this mission, the design of the new website has included consultation with people living with dementia and their carers to inform the look and feel of the site, creating something that is simple and easy to use.
In addition, the site has been built with the DEEP (Dementia Engagement and Empowerment Project) guidelines in mind, to ensure the site is accessible and engaging for people living with dementia, and their carers.
Based on the DEEP guidelines and feedback from end-users, some of the design choices made include:
'¢Short text, using clear, direct language
'¢Simple headings
'¢Use of large text
'¢Clear links to other pages
'¢Plain backgrounds to avoid distraction
'¢Easily accessible information
'¢Simple, engaging images showing people taking part in House of Memories activities
Having followed the DEEP guidelines there was good feedback from the user-testing.
Some of the comments included:
'Not too much text which is a good balance'
'Clear what it is ' user friendly'
'Warm', 'friendly' and 'caring'
